Golden, a Lecturer at Florida State, was the moderator on a panel held in March 1997 at Florida State University, on the topic of War and Racism in American Culture. The three star panelists were Styron, Kurt Vonnegut, and Joseph Heller, all of whom were veterans of World War II, and who wrote novels which are emblematic of the theme under discussion. The panel discussion took place on March 21, 1997. It later aired on C-Span, and is available on their website.
