Original gilt-stamped crimson cloth, gilt edges, black endpapers. Housed in custom morocco-backed case.

"Fortieth Thousand" on title page. Presentation copy inscribed by author on half title in purple ink, Bertram James Collingwood from his affte. An authority on chloroform, Collingwood inherited his uncle's medical book collection and eventually became Professor of Physiology at the University of London. Also a sportsman, he is most often remembered for having donated the "Collingwood Cup, " which is still the championship trophy for Irish University Football.

A Good copy with a darkened spine with some small holes and wear to exterior gutters, light edge wear and mottling to cloth. Typed old booksellers' decsription taped to front free endpaper. A few light reading smudges and small stains; rear ad for other works by author heavily stained with some smaller stains to adjacent pages. The sequel to Alice in Wonderland containing such famous poems as "Jabberwocky" and The Walrus and the Carpenter. A rare inscription from the famous children's book author to a member of his family.
