The binding is square and tight and in smart condition. There is a little bumping to the spine ends and corners. There is a little marking to the boards, with two tape residue marks to the front and to the rear.
Inside, the pages are clean and bright and in excellent condition, with no marking or signs of wear, apart from slight speckling to the edges. There is an ownership inscription to the ffep, part of which has been attempted to be erased. The book is flat signed by the author to the title page. This very smart book is housed in its original, unclipped, dust jacket. There are faint tape residue marks to the front and back, which have bled through from the underside of the jacket, and correspond to those on the book. There is a very faint scratch to the front and bumping to the edges. In spite of this, the jacket is still in clean, bright, and collectible condition. In all, this is a lovely smart example of this signed first edition by popular author, John le Carre. It is his first post-war novel, and details an undercover operation to bring down a major international arms dealer. The protagonist, Jonathan Pine, the Night manager, is a former soldier. The novel is about his determination to bring down Richard Roper, the'worst man in the world', and his criminal enterprise. The novel was adapted to a tv series in 2016, starring Tom Hiddleston as Jonathan Pine and Hugh Laurie as Roper. This is a smart and collectible example of this novel, particularly collectible flat signed by le Carre, and it would be an excellent addition to any collection.
