"The Economic Order and Religion" is a 275 page, 5.5"x8.75" hardcover written by Frank H. Merriam and published in 1945 by Harper & Brothers (New York). This is the stated first edition, and it's inscribed by Knight to his sister Bessie on the ffep (though only signed as "Frank"). The book is in good condition, with no dust jacket. The green cloth boards show various scuffs, stains and smudges, wear to the edges.
We've removed paper stuck to the back but some residue remains. Several pages have pencil marks. Knight wrote about religion and social ethics throughout his career.
"The Economic Order and Religion" was a collaborative project with Thornton W. The book was intended to bring the differences among Americans' approaches to economic ethics into high relief by presenting two contrasting viewpoints, and allowing the authors to comment on each other's perspective.
Prior to collaborating with Merriam, Knight had begun work on a book on religion, economics and social ethics. When the collaborative project emerged in the early 1940s as a realistic opportunity, the material already written was re-worked into the chapter essay "Liberalism and Christianity" included in this monograph. Please see our other items where several more books from the Knight family estate, written by Frank Knight or his economist brother Bruce Winton Knight and gifted to immediate family members may still be available.
