Published by Pan Books, London; 1984. First edition Signed by author. Condition: Near Fine / Near Fine.
Bound in original cloth boards with silver title to the spine. The binding is in excellent condition, square and tight and with just a touch of bumping to the spine ends and corners. Inside, the pages are clean and bright and free from marks, save a hint of toning and the minor age spotting. There is a neat gift inscription to the top. There also appears to have been erased message on the same page, which can still be faintly seen. The book is signed by the author to the ffep. The book is housed in it's original dust jacket which, although it is clipped, is also in very smart condition. There is a touch of bumping to the edges and a small chip to the top front corner, but it is otherwise free from marks or damage and very nice indeed.
In all, this is a very collectible example of the fourth book in the Hitch-hiker'trilogy of six books'. It meets all first edition, first printing points with the hologram to the front of the dust jacket and an individually stamped number to the ffep, which reads 3729. The book's title is the message left by the dolphins when the departed Earth, just before it was demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass. This novel has a slightly different tone to the others in the series, it is a romance and it also moves around more erratically through time. That said, it is still "filled with loopy humour and pretzel logic that makes Adams' writing so delightful" (Library Journal 1993). This book is in excellent condition and is a rare find signed. It would complement any modern firsts collection. This item is in the category "Books, Comics & Magazines\Antiquarian & Collectable".
