First Edition, First Printing of Jerry Kamstra's Weed: Adventures of a Dope Smuggler. Signed and inscribed by the Author on the half-title page. This is, to be sure, a tale of adventure - a non-fiction, first-person account of moving a massive amount of marijuana from Mexico into the United States. The suspense and excitement attendant upon that enterprise, the cunning manoeuvres and minute particulars of the smuggler's trade as related by the author would be sufficient cause to recommend the book. But Weed is much more than that.

It is equally a travelogue, with rich descriptions of the landscapes, towns, mountains and remote villages of Mexico, and a cultural commentary, both on Mexico and the United States. It is also a vivid portrayal of lives lived (in Robert Browning's phrase) "on the dangerous edge of things, " lives pursued outside the law with all the implications and complications of that oblique stance. Original one-quarter bound cloth with paper sides present nearly clean with only a couple pen-sized spots to front. No remarkable wear to hinges, creases, corners, or head and foot of spine. Light spotting to text blocks. Internally clean and unmarked but for first edition neatly penciled to front endpaper. Dust Jacket presents exceptionally well with richly colored panels and spine. No remarkable wear to edges, creases or hinges. Light chipping to corners with the tiniest bit of loss and to foot of spine with light folding. A very nice autographed example.
