This is, of course, because softcover books (even new ones) show wear much more quickly, even if they just sit on the bookstore shelf. In other words, I grade softcover books against other softcover books on the market. Please be assured that I will note any flaws and you will be happy! New: A book that looks as if it just came out from the printer, never been read, without flaws or blemishes. If it was issued with a dustjacket, it is attached in perfect or almost perfect condition.
Looks just like you would expect to find on a bookstore shelf. New Publisher's Overstock: This is the typical unread book that I sell. I hand-pick these myself, in person, from a world-wide publisher's return warehouse. I get them from a wholesaler directly out of the publisher? The wholesaler sells them to leading discount stores, or to smaller private bookstores. In most cases, the books look like they just came off a bookstore shelf. You may be purchasing one at your local bookstore as new and just don't know it. If there are obvious flaws on the book or on dustjacket, I note them. There may also be a remainder mark (a single pen mark across the outer edge of the pages), or the dustjacket may be clipped (the removal of the original price from the dustjacket by clipping it off with a pair of scissors). If either of these are the case, I note them. What's great for you is that you get a new book at a BIG discount!! I get a great deal on these and pass the great prices on to you. As New: A used book that looks as if it could have possibly come have off a bookstore shelf, with light reading or thumb-through, without obvious flaws or blemishes. May have a few small minor defects which may include blemishes on the book. Any other problems are noted. Good: A used book, typical of the type normally seen.
