A very uncommon signed 1st edition of this collection of Oxford Lectures from Irish poet and playwright Seamus Heaney (1939 - 2013). In his lifetime, he was probably the best known poet globally.
This book gathers 10 lectures from Mr Heaney's time as Professor of Poetry at Oxford University between 1989 and 1994. The publication of this book occured close to the announcement of Mr Heaney as the deserved winner of the 1995 Nobel Prize for Literature. The Redress of Poetry : Oxford Lectures' published by Faber and Faber in London in October 1995, 1st edition standard modern hardback, (xviii) + 213 pages. This edition of the book was originally gifted to a doctor who was treating a friend of the poet's for cancer.
Heaney first encountered the doctor when they interacted when the doctor was doing his ward rounds. The kind message left in the book is testament to the poet's character. At time of writing this is only the third signed version of this book available worldwide. Mindful of the personalisation in this book (albeit I think it is a wonderful story connected to Heaney) - I have priced accordingly. Post it notes have been placed in photos to protect the anonymity of the deceased. In fine condition, tightly and squarely bound with sharp corners, all pages are clean and tidy suggesting either an unread or a very carefully read copy. From a smoke and pet free home. A percentage of any sale will be made to Cancer Research.
I appreciate this is an expensive item. Do feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have. I'd be happy to help.
