This work is signed by the author on the dust jacket and front free endpaper. His successful assault made him a national hero in Japan. He was wounded at the Battle of Midway and spent the rest of the war as a staff officer.
After the war, he was forthcoming when interrogated by the United States army and was not put on trial for war crimes. Fuchida converted to Christianity in the 1950's and became an evangelist, traveling extensively in the United States and Europe.
