Classic semi-autobiographical novel by Flora Thompson, published by the Oxford University Press. Inscription from Humphrey Milford to Elspeth Milford, dated Christmas 1939. Humphrey Milford was the publisher to Oxford University. There is also a note which appears to be in his handwriting, stuck onto the flyleaf, explaining the real name of the fictitious "Lark Rise". And there is a loose unrelated 1948 postcard addressed to Miss M(ary) E(lspeth) Milford, which has clearly lived in the book for over half a century as a bookmark; it seems a shame to separate them now!
