Lark Rise by Flora Thompson 1939 classic book 1st edition signed by publisher
Classic semi-autobiographical novel by Flora Thompson, published by the Oxford University Press. Inscription from Humphrey Milford to Elspeth Milford, dated Christmas 1939. Humphrey Milford was the publisher to Oxford University. There is also a note which appears to be in his handwriting, stuck onto the flyleaf, explaining the real name of the fictitious "Lark Rise". And there is a loose unrelated 1948 postcard addressed to Miss M(ary) E(lspeth) Milford, which has clearly lived in the book for over half a century as a bookmark; it seems a shame to separate them now! 8.5" x 6" approx. Condition: Vintage book, printed in 1939, in good condition for its age but it has clearly been read and is not perfect. The pages are in good condition. Light age-related spotting on the endpapers. The hard covers are in good condition, with light wear at the edges, and light fraying at the base of the spine. Inscription to previous owner from Humphrey Milford and explanatory note in the front. The dust jacket is badly torn, as shown. Dust jacket has been extensively repaired in the past, but is in two pieces, with some small sections missing, as shown. Has been clipped, just below the price. This item is in the category "Books, Comics & Magazines\Antiquarian & Collectable". The seller is "braver*grace" and is located in this country: GB.
