Lautner studied at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin Fellowship for six years in the 1930s, along with other great artists and architects like E. Fay Jones, Paolo Soleri and Santiago Martinez Delgado. Some of Lautners most famous designs include the Bob Hope residence in Palm Springs, the Elrod Residence which was used in the 1971 James Bond film Diamonds Are Forever, the iconic Googie's Coffee Shop (at the corner of Sunset Strip and Crescent Heights in Los Angeles).
Illustrated throughout with color and black & white photographs, 32 of which are by Julius Shulman whose interest in architectural photography was inspired through a chance meeting with renowned architect Richard Neutra. Shulman has received many awards and honors over the years, including the American Institute of Architecture Gold Medal for architectural photography in 1969 and an Honorary Membership in 1980.
