Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone. UK first edition, third printing published by Bloomsbury, London. Signed and inscribed to Ronald with best wishes [signature]. The book comes with a PSA certificate of authenticity.
PSA is an independent professional autograph authentication agency in the USA. How PSA has authenticated and certified this book can bee seen in our picture no. 3 (picture of the CoA letter). The condition of the book is fine and very close to mint. There are no previous owners' scribbles of any sorts, no stamps, no stickers. The boards are clean, corners sharp as seen.
Paper block edges clean and no foxing whatsoever. We supply two first state dust jackets with this book, and both wrappers display the young wizard as called for.The first dust jacket is flawless except it is faded on the spine as shown. The second dust jacket which is absolutely identical to the first specimen retains its vibrant colour on the spine, but has some light edge wear. Both jackets show the correct price of GBP 10.99 and the Bloomsbury logo as called for. The dust jackets from printing three through seventeen were identical and were then changed to an old Dumbledore with a long white beard upon Rowling's request.
Hence, absolutely flawless wrappers can easily be obtained at reasonable cost. Famously the first edition print run was only 500 copies of which 300-350 went straight to libraries. As a result first edition copies in fine condition without any library stamps fetch a high five-number sum these days. According to Philip Errington's' J.Rowling: A Bibliogarphy', the second printing followed quickly with a run of 1,000 copies, followed by the third printing of 500 copies only p. The third printing was significant as it was the first printing which included a dust jacket.
The difficulty consists in finding copies in fine condition or close to it as initially the collectable market did not pay much attention to the book and most copies ended up with children who read and re-read the book dozens of times and handled the book accordingly. This is the book which started the global Harry Potter phenomenon. Highly sought after and a landmark book that will always hold its value especially considering that J. Rowling does not sign any Harry Potter books anymore bar for charity.Every year new records for first editions are realised at professional auctions and in our opinion the ceiling will not be reached for a long time. The book will be securely wrapped and send with insured tracked service.
