Men at War, Crown Publishers, New York, 1942. Thick 8vo, publisher's black cloth with pale green lettering, dustjacket, pp.
Inscribed and signed by Hemingway on the ffep: "To Bob Spencer from his friend Ernest Hemingway". Book reasonably square and tight, light wear to cloth, lettering lightly faded but still perfectly readable, pages yellowing, a few spots here and there, front hinge week but still holding. In a very good, unclipped, restored dustjacket. Ne of the most difficult Hemingway titles to locate in collectible condition due to its scarcity and the size of the book.Edited and with an introduction by Ernest Hemingway, this is one of the more scarce of the author's wartime publications. The book went quickly out of print during the war years as it was a great favorite of many G. Stories included are by Hemingway, Crane, Lawrence, Churchill, Faulkner, Kipling, Forester and others.
I list usually only signed books which have a solid, certain provenance. Moreover, I couldn't find out who Robert (Bob) Spencer was.
