Front hinge showing, but holding, at title page. White's hometown, written in small print at top of front pastedown. The book is inscribed to Jarret C. White, a prominent New York architect and political consultant. A collection of White's essay that were originally published in Harper's Magazine and The New Yorker between 1938 and 1942.
