Hardcover in dust jacket, 292 pages. Illustrated with black & white photos. Raswan is best known for his travels between the World Wars to Egypt, Libya, Iraq and Saudi Arabia to acquire Arabian stallions, the famous horse of the desert! Raswan was the pen name of Carl Reinhard Schmidt, a Lawrence of Arabia-type character who actually lived among the Bedouin in the years between the World Wars, wore their regalia, spoke and wrote their language, and was one of the world's great enthusiasts for their horses. In later life, he worked on an ambitious description of the lineage of every Arabian horse in the world from his horse ranch near Santa Fe, New Mexico.

This book describes his initial introduction to the Middle East and to the beautiful horses of the region. Also includes a hand-written note dated December 26, 1948, SIGNED by Raswan on letterhead from his New Mexico horse ranch inviting the addressee to come up & see us.

Also laid in, a blank sheet of Canoncito Ranch letterhead. Book very good condition, front corners bumped.
