CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY. WITH A FULL PAGE AUTOGRAPHED ASSOCIATION LETTER SIGNED BY ROALD DAHL. FINE CONDITION 1ST EDITION, 1ST PRINTING. First Edition, First State with a EARLY AUTOGRAPHED AND SIGNED LETTER by Roald Dahl. An extraordinary example of this title. Near fine, crisp clean copy with 6 line colophon located on the last page in the About The Author Section with a near fine dust jacket. Accompanied by a large signed letter addressed to Blanche, a close associate and friend who Dahl corresponded with on a regular basis, and who was the owner of Campbells Bookstore in Los Angeles. The letter, signed by Roald Dahl as Roald , is dated 15 June 1973 , with him exuberantly congratulating her on turning fifty. A beautiful crisp example of this title with vibrant red cloth boards with an embossed title image to front. Strong unfaded Gilt titles to spine. The boards are in clean condition with sharp corners, one very slight bump, and no edgewear. The binding is tight and square. The mustard colored end papers are in perfect clean condition with no inscriptions, no bookstore stamps and no owner names.

The rear end paper has a small pale stain. The internal pages still maintain their rigidity, and are crisp, bright, and flat, and extremely clean for this title. The book has no writing, no marks, no scribbles, no stains, no bent pages, no age toning and no foxing. Beautiful copy of a childrens book in hard to find clean condition, internally appearing as unread!

Accompanied by a very scarce autographed letter on letterhead of Gypsy house, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, 8 x 10. Penned entirely in the hand of Roald Dahl to Blanche Campbell. At some earlier point, Roald Dahl visited the Campbells shop in Los Angeles and he and Blanche developed a friendship. Many authors visited the Campbell bookstore which specialized in childrens books, during its long and successful run. Dahls warm playful letter to Blanche notes his best wishes for her birthday stating I honestly did not believe that either of you was old enough to have gotten that far send my very warmest congratulations to you and your husband, and to lament the fact that I cannot be present myself on the great day. Included is the original hand autographed mailing envelope , both in near fine condition. Gypsy House in Great Missenden was home to the late, great Roald Dahl and provided the inspiration for many of his stories. The gardens of Gypsy house permeated with that certain Dahlian magic that is so familiar to anyone who has grown up with his books. The original first edition, first state dust jacket benefited from a very tiny touch of restoration to one spine tip, and presents in near fine condition. The dust jacket is bright with vibrant colors with no ISBN to the rear panel as required for the first state of this title. The jacket has strong vibrant colors with no stains, no rips, no chips, no edgewear, and no foxing.

A very handsome, incredibly clean copy of this title with a wonderful scarce very early autographed and signed association letter. A fantastic set that presents well on the shelf!
